About Hostel
A well-managed hostel is sure to prove a blessing for those who are lucky enough to live in it. Hostel provides the best atmosphere to study, relax, unwind and discover oneself constantly through interaction with peers and participating in the cultural, sports and community activities. It exposes several experiences to them. Hostel is well equipped with all facilities. Hostel has 62 rooms (single, double beds ) and can accommodate 500 students. There is dining hall with modern kitchen facilities. Television room, Prayer Hall, Meeting Hall, Play Ground, Public address system and Garden are the other facilities provided in the hostel. Spacious rooms with windows give them a feeling of comfort. Currently there are 468 students from different places and backgrounds and live as one family without any differences of caste and religion. It provides sufficient scope for interaction and relationship – building. This gives the new students full scope to know their seniors, learn from them, leverage their knowledge and build lasting relations with them. It is also a common sight to find study groups and project groups working away into the night in the hostel common rooms. These interactions play an especially important role in a student’s life during placements and examinations.
Admission
Students are admitted into Hostel only after they are admitted into one of the courses in the College. The parent must accompany the applicant. Membership of the hostel is for one year only. Senior students wishing to be readmitted must apply again in the prescribed form. Those students who have not behaved well or shown seriousness in studies may not be admitted again.
Rules & Regulations
Responsibility and self-discipline are necessary for success in life. Common living is impossible without these. To maintain order and harmony, the following guidelines are to be followed by all. All should cooperate to maintain an atmosphere conducive to study; they should take every care not to disturb anyone, especially at times of study and sleep. Since all are Post-Graduate students, serious study habits are expected from them. Strict silence is to be observed from 9.00 pm. to 7.00 am. on all days. This silence time begins with prayer/song, played over the Public Address System. All the students are to stand outside their rooms for this prayer. Absence from the Hostel after 9.00. pm. without the Director’s permission is a serious fault. Those who wish to attend courses outside SJC campus will do so after getting written permission from the Director. An atmosphere of silence is to be maintained in the hostel permises in the forenoon hours, so that serious study which is expected of post-graduate students is possible for all. Day scholars are not to permitted to enter the hostel premises. Smoking in the hostel/College campus is strictly forbidden. Responsibility and self-discipline are the only means to success in life and these are necessary for community living. To help the students acquire responsibility and self-discipline and with a view to providing order and harmony in the hostel campus and an atmosphere for hard work and study, the following guidelines are presented.
