About Us

NSS The National Service Scheme is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. The scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year, September 24, 1969. In India, the idea of involving students in the task of national service dates back to the times of Mahatma Gandhi. The NSS motto is “NOT ME BUT YOU” This reflects the value of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciating other person’s point of view and show consideration for fellow human beings. It mainly focuses on the welfare of an individual there ultimately focusing on the welfare of society on the whole.

Vision

The vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social upliftment of the Down-Trodden masses of our nation as a movement.

Mission

The National Service Scheme has been functioning with the motto”NOT ME BUT YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in service of the people and hence NSS aims Education through Community Service and Community Service through Education.

Objectives

NSS in Our College

NSS was inaugurated in our college on 29.01.2002. The aim of the scheme was to increase the concern of the students for others and indulge them in selfless service to the society thereby motivating them to be good citizens of India.

Blood Donation Camp

On 19.02.2004 (Idhaya College) 20.02.2009 (Womens College Kumbakonam) 06.02.2010,(Idhaya College) 24.09.2010 (Idhaya College), 08.03.2011 (Government Hospital Kumbakonam) , 12.10.2013 (Mannaieri patti , Trichy) and 05.07.2018( Idhaya College) NSS conducted Blood Donation Camp, NSS students participated and donated their blood in all camps. NSS conducted blood camp at Dupuis block on 08.10.2018, 20 students were Participated in the Camp. On 08.03.2022 and 15.11.2022 (Idhaya College) NSS Conducted Blood Donation Camp 105 NSS Volunteers Participated and donated their blood.

WISH (Women Involved in Sanitation and Hygiene)

“Women Involved in Sanitation and Hygiene (WISH)”, will be coordinated by NSS in Idhaya College for Women, Kumbakonam for promoting Menstrual Hygiene Management and other Health Issues among urban and rural women. The unique forum “WISH” will definitely “Reach the Un-reached” through its programmes. The WISH activities will be implemented through NSS units in the college and their adopted villages in rural and slums in urban areas and schools.
